This position is responsible for coordinating several areas of the recreation programming for the City of O'Fallon.

 MAJOR DUTIES

 General

  • Develops, organizes, manages and evaluates recreation programs and special events in multiple areas.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, supervises and evaluates assigned full and part time personnel.
  • Creates, monitors, and assesses recreation program budgets for assigned areas.
  • Develops all formal bids for programs and projects.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Responds to, assists staff and manages results of customer complaints and concerns.
  • Compiles, analyzes, reports and maintains program, staffing and financial data.
  • Coordinates required training events for assigned areas.
  • .Directs full and part time staff and recommends policy and operational improvements.
  • Assists in overseeing the operations of the recreation complex, when assigned.
  • Performs related duties.

Position Specific

  • RSC Aquatics/Maintenance
    • Manage the operations and maintenance of the indoor aquatics facilities.
    • Assist with the maintenance of aquatic facilities outside the RSC.
    • Manage all aspects of Aqua Aerobics and Torpedoes Swim Team.
    • Oversee the operations and maintenance of RSC mechanical and operational equipment throughout the RSC.
    • Manage the custodial staff at the RSC.
    • Coordinate and assist with training and recertification of lifeguard staff department wide.
  • RSC Programming
    • Manage the planning and implementation of Camp JACK, and holiday camps located at RSC.
    • Manage the planning and implementation of youth programs at RSC.
    • Manage the operations of Kids Korner
    • Manage all aspects of sports at the RSC.
    • Supervise the fitness programming and front desk operations at the RSC.
  • Recreation Programming
    • Manage the utilization of RecWare department wide.
    • Coordinate the marketing department wide to promote RSC memeberships and all recreation programs. Chair the Marketing Committee.
    • Manage the marketing and rental of the new activity center in O'Day Park.
    • Supervise the concession, outdoor aquatics and general recreation programming outside the RSC.
  • Cultural Arts
    • Develops and manages cultural arts programs.
    • Produces adult and youth theatrical performances.
    • Manages and installs public art exhibits.
    • Writes grant applications and administers grant funding.
    • Developed and manages the Cultural Arts Plan; including the staff liaison to the Cultural Art Commission

 KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of recreation program development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the management and maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Knowledge of city policies and procedures, including purchasing and budgeting procedures.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

 This position has direct supervision over assigned full and part time personnel.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 General

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a related field, ion addition to the basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the major duties of the position and the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with five or more years experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Posession of or ability to readily obtain cerification in CPR
  • Certified Parks and Recreation professional preferred.
